3 Rifles. And my Nephew Byron.
3 Riles By A Bowers.
Based in Redford Barracks in Edinburgh, 3 RIFLES are within striking distance of The Rifles major recruiting areas in Yorkshire and The North East. The 3rd Battalion will train in all aspects of Light Role Infantry warfare as part of 11 Light Brigade and will routinely be the spearhead Battalion, tasked to deploy at short notice to trouble spots around the world such as a recent deployment to the Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan. Byron "My Nephew" who has been with the rifles since Feb is curnetly in Kenya training for the heat. looking forward to his tour in Afghanistan and is proud to be doing his bit for Queen and Country. Always been an ace with a BB-gun to an Air rifle, am sure he will be thrilled to be using one of the most accurate and modern rifle's that the world has to offer. As many are trying to leave due to wars that most didn't want to fight in i know truly if the country wasn't at war and didn't need him he would of found other means of work. So for that we all salute you and all our brave men and women doing there bit for wold peace. In years to come you can tell the Grand children "YOU WERE THERE".
It will typically conduct overseas exercises in jungle and arctic environments in order to meet this requirement. Edinburgh is a great location for a battalion (voted best place to live in the UK in 2007) and the camp is just two miles from the vibrant city centre whilst backing onto the Pentland Hills.
Now the 3 Rifles battlegroup has paraded along Edinburgh's Royal Mile before loved ones grateful both for their sacrifices and to have them back home.
The troops were deployed to Helmand Province in October 2009 and, in a six-month tour, incurred no fewer than 30 deaths from among their ranks.
It represents the heaviest casualties suffered by a British army battlegroup since the Korean war.
During their deployment, the 1,400-strong battlegroup - which included members of 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland - was based in the Sangin area of Helmand, widely regarded as one of the most difficult areas for anti-Taliban forces in Afghanistan. The infantry regiment is set apart from the rest of the army by its own unique idiosyncrasies.
The term "Rifleman" is used to describe every soldier, from the newest recruit to the most senior officer. In drills, the command "attention" is never used as troops are meant to stay permanently alert.
The Rifles (RIFLES) is a regiment of the British Army. It consists of five regular and two territorial battalions, plus a number of companies in other TA battalions, making it the second largest regiment in the infantry (the largest being the royal regiment of scotland, third being the guards division followed by the parachute regiment). Each battalion of the Rifles was formerly an individual battalion of one of the two large regiments of the Light Division (with the exception of the 1st Battalion, which is an amalgamation of two individual regiments).
The Rifles was created as a result of the Future Army Structure. Under the original announcement, the Light Division would have remained essentially unchanged, with the exception of the Light Infantry gaining a new battalion through the amalgamation of two other regiments, and both gaining a TA battalion. However, on 24 November 2005, it was announced by the Ministry of Defence that the four regiments would amalgamate into a single five-battalion regiment. The Rifles was formed on 1 February 2007 by the amalgamation of the four Light Infantry and Rifle Regiments of the Light Division:
